A custom return address stamp costs $25–50 from an online engraver, takes a week to ship, and uses a fixed design forever. A 3D printed address stamp costs about $0.30 in filament, prints in under an hour, and you can make a new one any time your address changes.

The result is a functional rubber stamp — TPU 95A on a 0.1mm FDM print — that works with any standard ink pad and stamps cleanly on envelopes, packages, and cards. Here's how to make one.

What to Put on an Address Stamp

A standard return address stamp has 2–3 lines:

• Line 1: Your name (or business name)
• Line 2: Street address
• Line 3: City, State, ZIP

You can also add a 4th line for a country (useful for international correspondence) or trim to just 2 lines if your name and address are short. The tool auto-sizes the text to fill the stamp face — shorter text gets larger letters.

For business address stamps, consider adding your company name on line 1 and shifting your personal name to a smaller line 2. The Stamp3D line size controls let you set each line's font size independently.

Recommended Size and Shape

Rectangle works best for address stamps. The wide, low format fits street addresses naturally — wide enough for the text, compact enough to fit in the return address corner of an envelope.

The 60×25mm size is the most popular for personal address stamps. It fits comfortably on a #10 business envelope and a standard A2 notecard envelope. If in doubt, start here.

Font Choice for Address Stamps

For FDM printing, bold fonts are your friend. Thin-stroke fonts lose detail when letter height drops below 7–8mm — exactly where most address stamp text lands. These are the best choices in Stamp3D for address stamps:

• Bold Block (Oswald 700) — cleanest result at small sizes. Uniform thick strokes survive the nozzle minimum. Best choice for most address stamps.
• Rounded Bold (Nunito 800) — softer, friendly feel. Good for personal correspondence; slightly lower contrast than Bold Block.
• Classic Serif (DM Serif Display) — beautiful but demanding. Works if letter height stays at 7mm+. Serifs can disappear at smaller sizes on a 0.4mm nozzle.

Avoid Monospace and Typewriter fonts for address stamps — they're designed for character spacing that wastes horizontal space, leaving you with fewer characters per line.

Step-by-Step in Stamp3D

1. Open Stamp3D and choose Rectangle shape. Set width to 60mm, height to 25mm.
2. Type your name on Line 1. Enter your street address on Line 2. City, State, ZIP on Line 3.
3. Select Bold Block as your font. The tool auto-sizes the text to fill the stamp face.
4. Toggle Mirror text on (it's on by default). This is what makes the stamp print correctly — the STL is mirrored so the impression reads forward.
5. Check the Ink impression tab to preview exactly what the stamp will print on paper.
6. In Print Settings, make sure FDM is selected. Leave relief height at 2mm (default) — it works well with water-based ink pads.
7. Click Download Stamp STL. Download Handle STL separately to print the handle in PLA.

Print the handle separately in PLA at standard settings (0.2mm layers, any speed). Thread an M3×12 bolt through the handle and into the hex nut pocket in the stamp back. No glue needed.

Getting Great Impressions

Once printed:

• Sand the stamp face lightly with 400-grit sandpaper (wet sand on TPU) to improve ink uptake.
• Prime by pressing on a VersaMark clear watermark pad before first use.
• Use a water-based ink pad — Versacraft, StazOn, or similar. Black ink shows cleanly on envelopes; dark blue is traditional for return address stamps.
• Press with even pressure, straight down — no rocking. Place a soft mat (mousepad, folded felt) under the envelope for even contact.
• Re-ink every 2–3 stamps.
